MAS QUE VINOS

THREE FRIENDS - THREE WINEMAKERS

The winery Más Que Vinos was founded in La Rioja in 1998 when the three friends: Margarita Madrigal, Alexandra Schmedes and Gonzalo Rodriguez met. Three winemakers, each one of us with an extense winemaking experience.

The origins of the winery go back to 1851 to Gonzalo´s family vineyards in Dosbarrios, located in the Mesa de Ocaña, close to Toledo.

Here we started our own winery in 1999, with a philosophy based on the essential role of the indigenous grape varieties: Cencibel, Garnacha, Airén and Malvar.

VINEYARD

Located close to our winery, on our farm FINCA EL HORCAJO, we currently cultivate 35 hectares of ecologically farmed vineyards which are:

La Madre: Cencibel & Garnacha

El Señorito: Cencibel

Las Laderas: Cencibel

El Pozo: Cencibel

Los Candados: Malvar

We also farm 35 hectares of old bush vines, some over 80 years old, of Airén and Cencibel which are located in the villages of: Dosbarrios, Cabañas de Yepes and Villarrubia.

Altitude: 750 meters

Climate: Extreme continental

Soils: Lime and clay

WINERY

In 2007 we inaugurated our new modern cellar in Cabañas de Yepes, the neighboring village of Dosbarrios.

Located here, between vineyards and olive trees, is where we carefully look after our wines.

The family winery of 1851 in Dosbarrios with its old original amphorae (las tinajas) is still in use and is where we barrelage our wine La Plazuela.

WINES & OLIVE OIL

The wines  we produce are meant to give sensation and taste to the good moments in life so for every moment, every palate, every meal we have created a wine:

ERCAVIO: The Originals: Ercavio Blanco, Rosado, Tempranillo Joven, Tempranillo Roble, Seleccion Limitada and the Ercavio Olive Oil.

SPECIAL EDITIONS: Wines of small production, each with a unique story:   La Malvar, La Meseta, 31 de Noviembre, La Buena Vid, Perlas de Otoño,       El Señorito and La Plazuela.

Ercavio OLIVE OIL

ERCAVIO EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

Our EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL is made from olives of our century year old olive trees of the variety Cornicabra, which is native in the region of Toledo and includes a small percentage of Arbequina and Picual.

The olives are harvested manually in December.

Due to the old age of the trees, the production is very limited.

After a strict selection the olives are carefully cold pressed and the oil is bottled without prior filtration.

The oil does not contain any additives or preservatives.

Due to its low acidity and its aromatic fruity complexity it is ideal with bread, any kind of salad, rice, pasta as well as fish and meat dishes.

For its conservation direct sunlight should be avoided and it should best be stored cool. Sediments may appear due to the natural production.

Vinmut

VINMUT

Based on traditional vermouth recipes from Germany and Spain, we have chosen a selection of herbs from both countries for our Vinmut. The white wine is made of our indigenous variety Malvar and was macerated with the selection of herbs. As we wanted to make dry, light vermouth, no alcohol or sugar was added.

Enjoy Vinmut as a refreshing aperitif, for example Spanish Kiss: 1:1 Vinmut and red sweet Vermouth & orange peel, served on ice in a cocktail glass.

Also taste our special cocktail MQV: 2 parts Vinmut and 1 part Gingerale, an orange peel, a green olive on ice.

Our Vinmut also combines perfectly with all Martini cocktails.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate June 30, 2016. Bodegas Más Que Vinos

Not very inspirational... All of a sudden it was Pink Floyd and it made a lot ofsense. Comfortably numb. Complacency, subsidies, triumphal messages from localpoliticians about the quality of the local wines little bit better...
